The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum - Illustrated 1903 Edition

$95.00

This highly collectible copy of L. Frank Baum’s “The Wizard of Oz” features illustrations by W.W. Denslow. The book is in fair condition, with the hinges beginning to separate. The boards are bright and don’t show signs of fading, but do have some minor shelf ware. There is a previous owner’s inscription on one of the facing pages, and one of the plates has separated from the binding.

This is the familiar story of a young girl named Dorothy Gale, who lives in Kansas with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. One day, a powerful tornado sweeps through their farm, carrying Dorothy and her dog, Toto, away to the fantastical land of Oz.

Upon arrival, Dorothy learns that her only hope of returning home is to seek the help of the Wizard of Oz, who resides in the Emerald City. Along her journey, she befriends three memorable companions: the Scarecrow, who desires a brain; the Tin Woodman, who longs for a heart; and the Cowardly Lion, who seeks courage. Together, they venture through the colorful and perilous terrain of Oz, encountering various challenges and characters along the way.

As they finally reach the Wizard, they discover that he is, in fact, a mere man without magical powers. However, through their experiences, Dorothy and her friends realize that they already possess the qualities they seek: intelligence, compassion, and bravery.

In the end, with the help of the Good Witch of the North, Glinda, Dorothy learns that the true power to return home rests within her. She clicks her heels together three times, exclaiming, “There’s no place like home,” and is transported back to Kansas, cherishing the lessons learned and the friendships forged in the enchanting land of Oz.
